There are few things in this world that excite me more than the potential that is present in any group of kids or teens. When I look out at a group of young people I’m almost always challenged by the fact that these students (regardless of the size of the group) have the potential to change the face of the world.
This is one of the key reasons I’ve chosen to serve in rural America, because these kids are often overlooked. I know this, because I grew up in rural America. I grew up in a community where the “skyline” was the water tower with the school’s sports mascot painted on it. In my county, there were two stoplights. A third has been added recently.
It’s here, in this place, that I often look at a group of students and realize that within the group is the tremendous potential for world change. Regardless of what those students become vocationally, they have an extraordinary opportunity to usher in world change if they become something spiritually.
So we focus on developing them spiritually and helping them interact with an almighty God. We pray that God will unlock their potential and make it a reality in this world. We don’t pray that someday they change the world, we pray that they begin to change the world right now. And we believe that they will.
Recently, I looked out at the kids in my church and told them that with Christ they can make a difference in this world. When I said it, I meant every word. I looked them in the eyes and told them that I believe that as long as they continue to serve Jesus, they can change the world. I got a little emotional and very excited thinking about the possibility.
How are you helping kids grow in their relationship with Jesus so that He can unlock their unique potential?
